The new Disney/Pixar short features the iconic voice of Hollywood legend Ed Asner, reprising his role as Carl, which he originally voiced in the 2009 Oscar-winning movie and 2021 Disney+ original series Dug Days.
Our favorite duo is back on a new adventure: dating. In the recently released trailer by Disney/Pixar titled Carl’s Date, the beloved widower from Pixar Animation Studios is seen preparing for a date alongside his talking dog Dug.
The theatrical short is scheduled for release on June 16, the same time Disney Pixar’s Elemental arrives. To recall, Carl has been grappling to let go of his past, but with Dug Days—which took place right after the events of Up—we see the widower slowly starting a new chapter of his life. This time, long-time fans can get a glimpse into Carl’s endeavors, including that of preparing for a date.
Here’s What We Know So Far About Disney/Pixar’s Upcoming Short Film ‘Carl’s Date’
Ready to give love another chance, the newly released trailer for Carl’s Date features the once grumpy old man—who refused to leave his home—going out on his first date since the death of his wife. Like the previous installment, Carl is still voiced by the late Ed Asner, the original actor behind the character. Despite his unfortunate passing in 2021 at the age of 91, the legendary Hollywood actor had the opportunity to record his voice for the film beforehand.
The original plan was to release the short film as part of the Dug Days collection. However, the studio decided to bring the story to the big screen along with Elemental. In the synopsis, Carl reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a ladyfriend, admitting he has no idea how dating works anymore. “Miss Meyer likes me and wants to go out on a date. I don’t know how to date!”
In the succeeding scenes, Carl is seen trying his best to prepare for his date by getting all paranoid with those red heart-shaped boxes and picking up flowers from his garden—as Dug puts it: “It’s not fun at all.” Nonetheless, to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters, Dug steps in to help.
Carl’s Date is directed by Bob Peterson and will debut on June 16. Prepare to witness our beloved duo as they captivate our hearts once again, reminding us that life truly is a remarkable adventure. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be inspired and uplifted!
