Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is Now the Best-Selling Album of 2023

November 7, 2023

November 7, 2023

Sharing is caring!

The album surpassed last year’s personal best of 1.578 million copies for Midnights by selling an equivalent of 1.653 million copies in the United States.

There’s literally no stopping Taylor Swift as she continues to make history—this time with the release of the rerecording of her 1989 album. As if dethroning The Weeknd as the most listened-to artist on Spotify was not enough, Billboard reported that the popstar’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) now ranks as the top-selling album in America in 2023.

With streaming taking over as the primary way of consuming music, hitting one million copies sold in America has become extremely rare these days—a distinction that Taylor pulled off just five days after she dropped the rerecorded version of her 2014 smash hit album.

Taylor Swift Continues to Break Records with the Release of ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Album

In the first week of its release, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart and became Spotify’s most-streamed artist in a single day. This debut also marked the largest first-week album sales for any album since Adele’s release of 2015 album 25, which is at 3.4 million.

Taylor’s reimagined version of the 1989 album marked the most significant opening sales week of her career. Republic Records reports that it garnered 1,653,000 equivalent album unit sales in the United States and approximately 3.5 million worldwide. This impressive figure includes 693,000 colored vinyl copies and 554,000 CDs, which were available in a range of formats.

It’s evident that Taylor Swift has had a remarkable year, showcasing her influence not just through her albums but also through her live concerts, documentary films, and relationships. Her music and artistic endeavors have continued to captivate audiences, making her a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

Looking ahead, she has two more albums to re-record—Reputation from 2017 and her self-titled debut album from 2006. Fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating these re-releases, as Taylor’s ongoing creative journey continues to unfold and her success in various facets of her career remains undeniable.
