Here’s Everything You Need to Know About ‘The Idea of You’
Based on the 2017 novel authored by Robinne Lee (Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed), rumors circulated that the story took inspiration from One Direction’s Harry Styles. However, in a 2020 interview, Lee clarified that the original intention of the book was to tell the story of a woman approaching 40, rediscovering her sexuality and self. The idea took root in 2017 when Lee stumbled upon One Direction’s music videos on YouTube, with Harry Styles capturing her attention. While he served as an initial muse, Lee downplayed the direct inspiration, stating that “inspired is a strong word.”
However, since the trailer dropped, fans can’t help but compare Hayes to Styles, especially noticing the striking similarities in Hayes’ commanding presence, reminiscent of Styles’ performances during One Direction’s heyday. Even Prime Video’s poster didn’t escape fans’ scrutiny, as the Red, White & Royal Blue actor mirrors Styles’ magnetic persona and style—right down to a similar pose!
In a captivating montage of passionate kisses and shirtless scenes featuring Nicholas Galitzine—with Anne Hathaway playfully reminding him that she’s too old for him—fans of the book and the dynamic duo can’t help but get all hot and bothered as the scenes escalate.
Co-written by Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein) and Michael Showalter (The Big Sick), Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway are joined by a stellar cast, including Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids), Perry Mattfeld, Viktor White, Jordan Aaron Hall, Raymond Cham, Jaiden Anthony, and Dakota Adan.
Set for a worldwide streaming premiere on Prime Video on May 2, this rated-R film vows to ignite screens with a scorching blend of passion, fun, and unbridled sensuality, leaving audiences craving more. Are you ready for it?
