WHO urges everyone to refrain from going out with friends as COVID-19 continue to accelerate

Sharing is caring!

World Health Organization director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reminded the public about the dangerous situation we are all still in as people tend to forget. Most are observed to be complacent.

In a press conference in Geneva on Friday, WHO warned the public about the aggressive acceleration of COVID-19 after some countries have declared lifting of lockdown and opening of borders. The statement is due to the massive spikes in South Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. On Thursday, WHO recorded over 150,000 cases, which is the most reported in a day so far.

While Dr. Ghebreyesus acknowledges the emotions and eagerness of most people for everything to go to the new normal due to months of being restless and frustrated, He said, “the virus is still spreading fast, still deadly, and most people are still susceptible.”

With the reports presented, affected cases are continuously increasing after some countries are trying to bounce back. Dr. Ghebreyesus urged everyone and stress out to continue social distancing, stay at home if they are feeling sick, keep covering their noses and mouths, and keep cleaning their hands.

Dr. Ghebreyesus said that the world is going into a “new and dangerous phase” with the pandemic. Everyone should stay focus and vigilant as there are still no vaccines that have been released to combat the virus entirely.

The importance of sticking with the basics should not be ignored “Find, isolate, test, and care for every case. Trace and quarantine every contact,” he said. “As the pandemic gathers pace, it is the most vulnerable who will suffer the most,” he added. “We have a shared duty to prevent, detect, and respond to the transmission of COVID-19.”

People who have been locked inside their houses have been craving for a lot of things outside. They used to eat out, go to places, and most especially meet their families and friends. Be able to talk to them personally, hug them, and drink out. While these feelings are valid, WHO urged everyone to refrain from any gatherings while it is not yet safe.

It is everybody’s best interest to minimize outdoor activities, including drinking out with friends and going to places that are unnecessary. Continue following social distancing and do our respective parts to fight the virus.
