The youngest Song-Covey sister now takes the lead in the recently released trailer for the Netflix film franchise.
This May 18, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before fans will get to see Anna Cathcart take the spotlight in the spinoff of the original young adult romantic comedy series. Reprising her role as the younger sister of Lara Jean (Lana Condor), Kitty heads to South Korea, to study at a boarding school abroad and meet her long-distance boyfriend, Dae (whom she first met atop Seoul’s Namsam Tower in To All the Boys: Always and Forever).
Netflix recently released a trailer, inspired by the Jenny Han novels, in which Kitty pays a surprise visit to Dae (Choi Min-young) in South Korea, only to discover that he is already in a relationship with Yuri (Gia Kim). This then prompts Kitty to find her way around Korea and into the love triangle that she’s in.
What We Know So Far About the Upcoming Netflix Series, XO, Kitty
In this 10-episode spinoff, XO, Kitty, is set four years after the last To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise. The first few clips depict Kitty informing her parents (John Corbett and Sarayu Blue) of her admission to the Korean Independent School of Seoul (also known as KISS), where her late mother once studied. (The clip also reveals how Kitty learned more about her mom, particularly how she moved to Korea for boarding school in her junior year of high school through the scholarships designated for Koreans living abroad to learn about their culture.)
Upon leaving Portland, Oregon, the trailer introduces new characters, like her fellow students Sang Heon Lee (Min Ho), Anthony Keyvan (Q), Peter Thurnwald (Alex), Jocelyn Shelfo (Madison), and Regan Aliya (Juliana), as well as Michael K. Lee (Professor Lee) and Yunjin Kim (Jina). South Korean actor Choi Min-Yeong of the trending Twenty-Five Twenty-One K-drama series takes on the role of Dae, which was previously played by Jeon Hoyoung.
As per the creator, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of XO, Kitty, Jenny Han: “For us, it was about giving Kitty the chance to really explore her inner self and to offer that peek into what she’s thinking. ‘To All the Boys’ is centered around Lara Jean, and we’re really in her head. Kitty is obviously a side character in that story. So, we don’t know what she’s thinking. We could guess, because Kitty definitely wears her emotions and her thoughts on her sleeve, and she says whatever she thinks.â€
As a living-out-loud kind of character, Kitty immediately says what comes to her mind. And that’s the most fun part of exploring her character. She’s not so in her head. Given alll these ups and downs, including some romantic spins, fan-favorite Anna Cathcart posted on her Instagram: “Grab your helmets, kids. This is gonna be a wild ride.â€
While it’s not certain if Noah Centineo and Lana Condor will be making a special cameo, as we only see them through the flashbacks, it’d be great to see how Kitty’s story will unfold. ‘Go big or go home?’
Don’t forget to mark your calendars. That’s May 18, the premiere of XO, Kitty.
