Thai Festival 2022: Muay Thai is Back!

November 2, 2022

Sharing is caring!

The annual celebration is FREE ENTRY for all Singaporeans and foreigners living in the city-state.

After three years of pandemic hiatus, the most-awaited celebration of Thai culture at the Royal Thai Embassy on Orchard Road is back. Themed “Muay Thai”, Thai Festival 2022 is scheduled to happen this November 4-6 (Friday to Sunday), starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

For this year’s celebration, Thai Festival 2022 aims to promote and showcase Muay Thai, which is not only a unique contact sport and martial art that originated in Thailand but also brings awareness at a historical level on the cultural heritage and the national sport of the country.

Exciting Things to Look Forward To This Coming Weekend: Thai Festival 2022

With its comeback, the Royal Thai Embassy on Orchard Road hopes to strengthen the promotion of Thailand among Singaporeans, and foreigners alike, through experiential activities that showcase Thai culture, products, and cuisine.

The organizers of the Thai Festival 2022 have partnered with the World Boxing Council MuayThai (or WBC MuayThai) in Singapore, the Eminent Fighting Championship (EFC), ONE Championship, and local Muay Thai gyms to raise awareness and educate the public about authentic Muay Thai. Aside from the information campaign, this aims to provide Muay Thai athletes in Singapore with a safe and competitive platform to further hone their skills – as there will be actual Muay Thai competitions during the cultural festival. Sanctioned by WBC MuayThai, this year’s Thai Festival will feature the best of Thai, local, and international Muay Thai fighters.

Thai Festival 2022: Muay Thai is Back!

In fact, WBC MuayThai Singapore is working with EFC to promote Singapore as a premier Muay Thai destination for international fights. Aside from providing support to local fighters through the opportunities made open for their consistent growth, beyond just the combat, this also fosters public appreciation for Muay Thai as both a sport and an art, in accordance with Thai traditions.

For the first time in history, EFC and WBC MuayThai will host the Muay Thai competition at the Royal Thai Embassy grounds in Singapore during the Thai Festival. They are breaking new ground by bringing the welterweight (147lbs) WBC MuayThai International Title to Singapore for this event, also a first in WBC history.

During the event, two formidable fighters – Singapore’s Brandon Ng and Australia’s Damon Nelson – will be battling for the title on November 5, 2022. This is made possible through the support of the main sponsors, namely, InterContinental Singapore, Singha Beer, AirAsia, Tiger Balm, Primo Fight Wear, and AroiMakMak.com.

Furthermore, Singapore’s leading combat sports promotion, ONE Championship, will also be hosting a Muay Thai seminar. This will be conducted by their very own superstar fighters, including Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and Panpayak Jitmuangnon, on November 6 (Sunday), from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Thai Festival.

On top of the special Muay Thai activities, the usual favorites from the previous Thai Festivals can also be experienced, like Thai food, products, cultural performances, and music. During the three-day event, expect over 30 stalls to sell Thai delicacies and merchandise ranging from jewelry, clothing, fashion, gifts, home décor, decorative accessories, and health & beauty products.

Making it even more memorable for those who will join the event, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Singapore Office, is sponsoring a cooking demonstration and giving away free samples of Thai desserts imported from Thailand! How cool is that? Fans of Thailand can also collect free gifts from the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s booth. Last but not least, there will be lucky draws with attractive prizes to be won during the eventful three-day festival, which includes round-trip flight tickets to Bangkok and a staycation at 5-star hotels in Singapore.

So, what are you waiting for? Invite your friends and family members to take part in this cultural festival. Join the fun at Thai Festival 2022: Muay Thai this November 4-6!
