The singer-songwriter received the night’s most coveted award, an accolade previously awarded to Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, and Pharrell Williams.
iHeartRadio Music Awards once again celebrated the milestones of artists who made the most impact across airwaves. Held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, this year’s biggest winners include Taylor Swift, who has been nominated for ten categories, Harry Styles, who was absent from the show because of his Love on Tour commitments, and Pink, who took home the Icon Award.
Hosted by Lenny Kravitz, iHeartRadio Music Awards was broadcasted live on Fox. Taylor Swift, who has recently kicked off her stadium tour, The Eras Tour, made a quick pit stop to accept her Innovator Award, which was presented by Phoebe Bridgers. In her speech, the multi-hyphenated musician joked about how she never really woken up and chose to innovate. Instead, to become the best version of herself—and the songs she made—she allowed herself to make mistakes.
“What I did do was try to make the right decision for me at the time, whether or not it had ever been successfully done before. I really want everyone to know, especially young people, that the hundreds or thousands of dumb ideas that I’ve had led me to my good ideas. You have to give yourself the permission to fail.”
