Summer destination Bali stays closed until the end of 2020

Sharing is caring!

“When can I travel again?” that has always been the question left unanswered as the COVID situation continues to strike for most countries.

The global pandemic has had an enormous impact on the aviation industry and Travel in general. As many countries have imposed travel restrictions, it made for travelers more challenging to plot any travel plans.

Bali Indonesia – One of the most visited travel destinations in Asia last year has announced that it is not to accept foreign tourists this year.

Authorities of the popular holiday destination had earlier said foreign visitors would be allowed to return from next month. The original plan to open and accept tourists was changed due to the country’s mounting COVID-19 cases.

This move has increased anxieties due to its massive impact on residents in an economy heavily dependent on tourism. Indonesia, as a whole, has more than 150,000 confirmed cases and 6,680 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Impact on tourism

“The Indonesian government couldn’t reopen its doors to foreign travelers until the end of 2020 as we remain a red zone,” Bali Governor Wayne Koster said. “The situation is not conducive to allowing foreign tourists to come to Indonesia, including Bali.”

Over six million foreign tourists visited Bali last year, accounting for more than a third of Indonesia’s total. There was a massive downturn in tourism following the outbreak of the COVID-19.

“The local government will focus on increasing the number of domestic visitors to help the tourism industry and economy recover”, Koster said.

The future of air travel remains unclear. As the world emerges from the global lockdown hygiene and safety are being prioritised more than ever.
