Michelle Yeoh made history by winning Best Performance by a Female Actor in a  Leading Role—the first Asian woman—in the recently held Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The multiverse adventure film, Everything Everywhere All at Once, became the big winner for the 29th SAG Awards, which took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles last Sunday. Primarily held to honor the best performances in both television and film, this year’s awards highlighted Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan.

Making history as the first Asian woman to win the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, beating frontrunner Cate Blanchett of TAR, Michelle Yeoh shared in her emotional acceptance speech, “This is not just for me. It’s for every little girl who looks like me.” Her co-star, Ke Huy Quan, was also noted for becoming the first Asian actor to have won the SAG Award for Best Supporting Male.

Meanwhile, in the television categories, Abbott Elementary won the Outstanding Ensemble Cast Award in a Comedy Series, while The White Lotus took home the Outstanding Ensemble Cast Award for a Drama Series.  For his exemplary performance in The Whale, Brendan Fraser was hailed as this year’s Best Lead Actor, while Jennifer Coolidge brought home the Best Actress in a Drama Series Award opposite Ozark’s Jason Bateman, who was named Best Drama Series Actor.
