The singer and beauty mogul steps into the spotlight, succeeding Charlize Theron’s two-decade reign as the face of the iconic fragrance.
Powerful, dazzling, inspiring—true to Dior’s own words, Rihanna continues her reign as a beauty icon, now taking on the role as the new face of Dior’s J’adore fragrance. Hot on the heels of her Fenty Hair launch last week, the 36-year-old singer and entrepreneur succeeds longtime ambassador Charlize Theron in a stunning short film directed by Steven Klein.
Announced last summer, Rihanna has been a familiar presence at Dior fashion shows, including the most recent one at Paris Fashion Week. As Dior’s first Black ambassador since 2015, she now embodies the essence of the brand’s fragrance in a captivating minute-long visual. Radiating elegance, she moves through the halls of the Palace of Versailles in a shimmering golden gown before appearing to walk on water, accompanied by the haunting melody of Love on the Brain.
Rihanna Takes the Spotlight as the New Face of Dior’s J’Adore
“Your dreams, make them real”—as bold as Rihanna’s words are in the new campaign, so too is the spirit of the entire production. Director Steven Klein describes the vision behind the film: “I wanted to create a visual dialogue between the classical style of the 18th century and Rihanna’s incredibly contemporary beauty. This film invents a new universe that bridges several worlds and several eras and manages to achieve a natural and radiant universal appeal.”
Noted for its unique blend of florals and fruits—featuring notes of ylang-ylang, Turkish Damascus rose, jasmine grandiflorum, and Indian jasmine sambac—J’adore now finds a new embodiment in Rihanna. The nine-time Grammy winner shares, “The scent that I have known and loved for so long means so much to women. I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity, and my own femininity.”
This collaboration marks a new chapter for the iconic fragrance, first released in 1999, which has since evolved with new iterations like the alcohol-free J’adore Parfum d’eau and J’adore l’Or, reimagined by Dior’s perfume creative director, Francis Kurkdjian. It’s a captivating move, especially considering Rihanna’s own fragrance success with Fenty Eau de Parfum, which sold out within hours of its 2021 launch and continued to do so with each restock.
It’s a seamless fusion of two icons—Rihanna and Dior—both under the LVMH umbrella. As LVMH describes, “For over two decades, the fragrance has been a brilliant and faithful companion for women all over the world—the perfume of a strong, liberated, and independent woman resonating perfectly with Rihanna’s personal story.”
While Rihanna takes on this new role, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron remains within the Dior family, transitioning from her role as the face of J’adore to an ambassador for Dior’s skincare and jewelry lines.
