Look: Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts Unveiled Oscars 2023 Shortlists

Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, and ten other star powers battle for the Best Original Song out of the 81 eligible tunes.

Ahead of its scheduled release, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences unveiled the list of shortlisted nominees for the 10 categories of Oscars 2023. The initial list included Documentary Feature Film, International Feature Film, Documentary Short Subject, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Animated Short Film, Live-Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.

Out of the films originating from 92 countries and regions, fifteen international features were identified as eligible, including South Korea’s Decision to Leave, Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Mexico’s Bardo, Belgium’s Close, and Pakistan’s first shortlisted film in the said category, Joyland.

On the other hand, out of the 81 nominated original songs, only 15 are pushing forward for the Best Original Song categories. The frontrunners include Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand (Top Gun: Maverick), Rihanna’s Lift Me Up (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Taylor Swift’s Carolina (Where the Crawdads Sing), Dianne Warren’s Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), and The Weeknd’s Nothing Is Lost (Avatar: The Way of Water).

Oscars 2023: Shortlists

The nominations for the 95^th Academy Awards will be formally held on January 24, 2023, while the awarding for Oscars 2023 will be on March 12 at the Dolby® Theater at Ovation Hollywood. With excitement pounding, the Academy has released the shortlists in 10 categories.
