Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movies, the gaming giant is now working on the adaptation of the popular video game franchise.

Guess, it’s not a secret to everybody now, mah boi: Nintendo is currently in the process of developing a live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Helmed by the renowned director of the Maze Runner trilogy, Wes Ball, and co-produced by the former CEO of Marvel Studios, Avi Arad, this exciting news coincided with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which managed to sell an astounding 10 million copies in its first three days, making it the second highest-selling video game of the year by a wide margin.

The legendary designers behind the Mario and Zelda game franchises, Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, are making a return to the spotlight with a fresh undertaking following the success of the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

What We Know So Far About the Upcoming ‘Legend of Zelda’ Live Action Movie

According to Nintendo, the film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is already in progress, a fact reaffirmed by Miyamoto in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he stated: “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega-hit films.”

Raking more than $1.3 billion with the release of Super Mario Bros. Movie, this remarkable success has inspired the company to embark on another animated film project, with eyes now set on Zelda. “I realize there are so many Zelda fans, and we cannot betray their expectations. That is a big hurdle. But we are ready,” says Miyamoto.

For those who are unfamiliar with it, The Legend of Zelda stands as a beloved and iconic video game franchise that has captured the hearts of gamers for decades. The series revolves around the adventures of a courageous hero, Link, and his quest to rescue Princess Zelda while battling the forces of evil, particularly the infamous villain, Ganon.

Since its debut in 1986, the franchise has been celebrated for its immersive world, intricate puzzles, and unforgettable characters. In 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made a groundbreaking impact by introducing an open-world RPG for Nintendo Switch and Wii U. This enduring acclaim and a dedicated fan base have propelled The Legend of Zelda into various media outlets, such as merchandise and manga, and now, it’s making its way to the big screen with an upcoming movie adaptation.

As of now, essential details about the upcoming movie, such as the screenplay, cast, and other specifics, remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, fans of The Legend of Zelda can eagerly anticipate the forthcoming cinematic exploration of this video game universe. Stay tuned for more updates and developments as the project unfolds!
