Netflix announced that The Witcher is returning for Season 4 with Henry Cavill handing his sword to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia.
While the third season of The Witcher hasn’t premiered yet, Netflix already confirmed that the flagship franchise is returning for Season 4. But while this may seem to be a piece of good news, the streamer also announced that Henry Cavill won’t be returning for the fourth season. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will take the reins as Geralt of Rivia in the epic drama series.
In a post on Instagram, Cavill shared: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Hemsworth also released his statement regarding this matter on his social media account. “As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.” Liam added, “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
Quick Look at The Witcher
The live adaptation of the popular Witcher book began airing in 2019. Thanks to Henry Cavill’s stoic yet charming take on the white-haired witcher, Geralt of Rivia, the Netflix series exploded in popularity and resulted in renewal for the second and third seasons, anime prequel, movies, and even a spin-off. A four-part prequel series is set to premiere this Christmas, The Witcher: Blood Origin, starring Michelle Yeoh.
The Witcher Season 3 is slated for release Summer of 2023 – and will be Henry Cavill’s last. He recently made a cameo in the newly released Black Adam. As per reports, he was permitted to take a break from Season 3 to give way for his Black Adam appearance. However, it seems that he permanently exits the series this time.
Aside from appearing in the 2022 DC Superhero film, Cavill made headlines after announcing that he is officially making a comeback as Superman. As a hot commodity in the entertainment industry, Cavill also stars alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Enola Holmes 2, which is set to premiere in the first week of November. He also signed with film director Guy Ritchie for another role in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Welfare.
On the other hand, the new Geralt of Rivia, Liam Hemsworth, is best known for his role in The Hunger Games series, where he took the role of Gale Hawthorne, alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. He also starred with Christoph Waltz in the Roku Channel’s Most Dangerous Game series. Most recently, he starred in the mystery thriller, Poker Face, with Russel Crowe and Elsa Pataky.
