Sharing is caring!

With the easing of COVID-19 rules and regulations in Singapore, for sure you are more than excited to go out and explore some events that are currently happening in the island-city state.

Don’t know what to do over the next few days? Singapore got you covered. With a wide range of events scheduled this month – be it in arts or culture – you will never run out of things to do before this month ends. Schedule a fun meetup with your friends or venture into a personal journey and discover more about yourself by attending the following events:

REFUSE

Gen-Z-Magazine-Refuse

Seeking to bridge the gap between the artists and their expressions, the Singapore-based experimental band, The Observatory, came up with an intermedia exhibition about music, mushrooms, and decomposition. REFUSE is an exhibition that combines significant disciplines in mycology design (Bewilder), scenography installation (Chen Sai Hua Kuan), archive arrangement (Ujikaji), moving image (Yeo Siew Hua), and guest curation of Tang Fu Kuen.

Known for their cultural ethos and contemporary afflictions in Singapore, the interdisciplinary exhibition held by The Observatory presents their evolving methodologies as a band, the communities that support them, and their poignant role in Singapore’s music scene.

Last day of the exhibition: April 17 (Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark)

Staging: Mapplethorpe

Gen-Z-Magazine-STAGING_-MAPPLETHORPE

The first solo exhibition in Singapore of the iconic artist, Robert Mapplethorpe is finally happening. Giving a glimpse of how the artist pursued beauty by exploring the human form, flora, and still-life, those who are into the arts can now get an up-close view of 10 of his works that were captured during the most significant period of the his life, between 1979 to 1987 – with all the changes in the economic landscapes, political conservatism, and the height of the AIDS pandemic (the disease that unfortunately took the artist’s life).

As one of the most critically acclaimed artists of the 20th century known for his black-and-white photography that ranges from stylized self-portraits to renowned figures in the industry, the exhibition aims to immortalize the beauty captured by Mapplethorpe by meticulously staging and rigorously putting all attention into the sculptural form of his photographs.

Last day of the exhibition: April 9 (Appetite, 72A Amoy Street)

Design Superposition

 Gen-Z-Magazine-Design Superposition

Exploring the thought-provoking process of design, the National Design Centre brings together 10 local and international creatives for their latest exhibition, the Design Superposition. Focusing on the impact and value of design in the society, as well as in the industries of today, the invited artists showcase their unique practices and craft in the field that they are in – such as illustration, architecture, digital media, Fengshui principles, industrial design, science and technology, fashion, visual art, and nature.

Design Superposition provides a venue for visitors to explore by their own hands and interact with the exhibits in hopes that they get to reflect and ponder the true meaning of design and learn its role in society.

Last day of the exhibition: April 10 (National Design Centre)

The Non-Season

Gen-Z-Magazine-The-Non-Season

Get your senses ready and check out Design Orchard’s The Non-Season – an extensive public art, fashion, and lifestyle showcase. In this exhibition, the works of 20 Singapore-based artists and designers (including Mike Chang, Divaagar, Marla Bendini, Aki Hassan, and Kristal Melson) are presented through an exciting program. Those who are into fashion can browse through the capsule collections of Singapore-based artists and designers Sabrina Goh, 1925 Brewing Co., Ans.ein, Cocoonese, Singapore Memories, and Wet Tee Designs

Aside from that, to dig deep into the creativity of the audience, Design Orchard will also hold a series of open-to-public workshops, panel discussions, live performances, and heritage tours. All these are made possible through the collective effort of Hyphen BB, led by May Leong, Becca D’Bus, and Bobby Luo.
