Ahead of the season three release, Daphne Basset leaves the steamy hit series to fulfill her contractual obligations.
Just right before the most-anticipated release of Bridgerton Season 3, Phoebe Dynevor revealed in an interview while promoting her new film, Fair Play, that she will no longer be in the third season of the hit period romance series. The lead actress of the first season shared that while there are “exciting dynamics coming up for Daphne,” she will no longer be joining the upcoming season.
However, she left the door open and added that there could be a potential return in the future—or that she may make a cameo. But in the meantime, she is just as excited to watch Bridgerton Season 3 as a viewer.
A Quick Lookback on the Bridgerton Series
The groundbreaking series directed by Shonda Rhimes took off with Phoebe as the main protagonist, playing the role of Daphne Basset. The story centered on her fraught courtship—and later on her marriage with the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, portrayed by Rege-Jean Page (who also left the show, breaking thousands of hearts, after the first season).
In the second season, Daphne took on a supporting role as the narrative of the series focused on her brother, Anthony, as portrayed by Jonathan Bailey. Fans fell hopelessly in love with the witty discussions and exchange of remarks between Anthony and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Despite the extreme circumstances that both were in, they eventually ended up together, as the story puts a close to the second season.
Phoebe’s departure was actually not much of a surprise. The 27-year-old actress was well aware of her contract as well as the structure of the Bridgerton novels authored by Julia Quinn. Following the book series, where each member of the family gets the spotlight of the titular family, season three is said to focus on the story of Benedict Bridgerton (portrayed by Luke Thompson), if Netflix were to follow the order of the books.
For this season, Jess Brownell will serve as the showrunner in place of the original creator, Chris Van Dusen, who now works as the executive producer along with Shonda Rhimes. Bridgerton is expected to make its most anticipated return within this year. Are you excited to know about Lady Whistledown’s latest tea? Stay posted for more.
