The BreadTalk Group has unveiled its latest culinary gem, Today Kampung Chicken Rice Restaurant 日日茶室, in Tiong Bahru. This all-day dining experience offers a delectable journey through the heart of Singapore’s hawker heritage, available from breakfast to dinner.
A Culinary Tribute to Tradition
Located at 71 Seng Poh Road, Today Kampung Chicken Rice Restaurant promises an authentic taste of Singapore’s culinary legacy. Open from 7 am to 10 pm daily, this new hotspot aims to uplift and preserve heritage hawker cuisine. Head Chef Chuan, who has dedicated over 19 years to perfecting the iconic Hainanese Kampung Chicken Rice, leads the restaurant’s kitchen. His dedication ensures that each dish remains true to its roots, delivering rich and authentic flavors.
“Our mission is simple – to conserve and uplift heritage hawker cuisine while adding vibrance to the Tiong Bahru community,” says Chef Chuan.
Signature Dishes That Tell a Story
The star of the menu, the Hainanese Kampung Chicken Rice, is a testament to culinary artistry. Using only the finest ingredients, including the largest female kampung chickens, this dish is a flavor explosion. The chicken is steamed with chicken fat and infused with pandan leaves, lemongrass, garlic, ginger, and other secret ingredients. It is served with a homemade piquant chili sauce, dark soy sauce, ginger sauce, and a bowl of pure chicken broth, boiled for six hours with over 10kg of chicken bones.
Another highlight is the Li Xin Teochew Fishball Noodles, a Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee. Made from 100% yellowtail fish, these handmade fishballs are renowned for their firmness and bounce, offering a hearty and satisfying meal.
Beyond Chicken Rice
Today Kampung Chicken Rice Restaurant also offers a variety of zi char dishes, promising a rich cultural experience. Must-try items include the Salt & Pepper Dragon Tongue Fish and the Pui Kia Ribs, both cooked to perfection. For breakfast, the Signature Chicken Porridge, featuring chunks of tender Kampung chicken, is a crowd favorite.
To celebrate the grand opening, the restaurant is offering $1 off all Li Xin Teochew Fishball Noodles from 7:30 am to 10:30 am throughout July.
