We’re Going Up, Up, Up! ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Sequel is Coming in 2029

Sharing is caring!

Still got Golden and Soda Pop on repeat? Netflix’s most-watched animated film is officially getting a sequel!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know just how massive KPop Demon Hunters has become. While animated films are often deemed cartoons for kids, the Netflix hit proved to be a full-blown cultural phenomenon that has captured the hearts (and playlists) of both the young and the young at heart.

What started as a stylish, action-packed story about a fictional K-pop trio saving the world quickly turned into one of the streaming giant’s biggest success stories. With jaw-dropping visuals, catchy hits, and enough emotional moments to make anyone tear up, KPop Demon Hunters didn’t just stream. It has unexpectedly risen to global dominance.

From Golden to Soda Pop to How It’s Done, people can’t stop singing, dancing, or recreating scenes from the movie. The soundtrack has dominated playlists everywhere, even topping charts before briefly being dethroned by Taylor Swift’s latest album—only to reclaim its No. 1 spot soon after. That’s the kind of staying power this movie (and its music) has.

And now, it looks like the hype train isn’t stopping anytime soon. Reports recently surfaced that Netflix, in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, is officially developing a K-pop Demon Hunters sequel—slated for release in 2029.

Here’s What We Know So Far About the Upcoming Sequel

At its core, KPop Demon Hunters follows a fictional girl group tasked with saving the world from sinister forces by sealing the mysterious Honmoon. But the movie didn’t just win hearts on screen. It also made waves in the real world.

Following its release, KPop Demon Hunters sparked a flood of collaborations across industries: from limited-edition cup noodles, cakes, and crackers, to a themed area inside South Korea’s iconic Everland amusement park. And it doesn’t stop there. Even the leading toy company, Mattel, recently announced a KPop Demon Hunters HUNTR/X Barbie doll line featuring fan-favorite characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.

And if you’ve been roaming around your neighborhood or hovering around social media, Halloween wasn’t able to escape the influence as well. Countless kids (and adults) were dressed in KPop Demon Hunters-inspired costumes—a clear sign of how deeply the movie has embedded itself in pop culture. Not bad for a film that’s only been out for three months and already clocked in over 300 million views worldwide.

What to Expect in the Upcoming ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Sequel

While Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation haven’t dropped official details yet, obviously, the excitement is already buzzing. Will we finally learn what really happened to Rumi and Jinu? Was it really the end for them? Is the Honmoon truly sealed forever? And what about the mysterious backstory behind Rumi’s parents? The first movie left us with so many questions—and, of course, we want nothing but answers!

Animated films typically take years to develop, which explains the expected four-year gap before the 2029 release. Of course, production timelines could shift, but one thing’s for sure: the countdown has already started.

Whether you’re still LSS with Golden or just finished your fifth rewatch, there’s no denying that KPop Demon Hunters has solidified itself as a defining moment in pop culture. Its music, visuals, and message of friendship and empowerment have transcended, proving that K-pop’s influence is stronger than ever.

So, as the world waits for the sequel to “up, up, up with our voices”, one question remains: what do you think the next chapter will bring? Our guess is as good as yours. Whatever it is, we’re totally here for it. Keep posted for more updates.
