Sharing is caring!

As Nick and Charlie face the challenges of long-distance love, the big question remains: can first loves really go the distance?

Ready to say ‘hi’ for one last time? Just in time for its third anniversary, Heartstopper has officially announced its finale. The beloved series will wrap up—not with a fourth season—but with a full-length feature film.

Starring and executive produced by Joe Locke and Kit Connor, the movie will be directed by Wash Westmoreland. Filming begins this summer. Netflix has officially greenlit the project, giving fans one last chapter to cherish.

What We Know So Far About the Upcoming ‘Heartstopper’ Film

The film will be written by Heartstopper creator, executive producer, and graphic novelist Alice Oseman. Her work has resonated deeply with viewers around the world for its heartfelt storytelling, nuanced characters, and honest portrayal of LGBTQ+ experiences. Through themes of love, identity, and friendship, Heartstopper captures the highs and lows of adolescence in a way that feels deeply personal and universally relatable.

Since it premiered in 2022, the series has become a quiet cultural phenomenon, praised for its gentle but impactful portrayal of first love and the emotional rollercoaster of growing up. With three seasons under its belt, fans were naturally expecting a fourth—but Oseman had a different vision.

As the author puts it: “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

What to Expect From the Heartstopper Movie

The movie will pick up from the emotional Heartstopper Season 3 finale. Nick, Charlie, and their close-knit group of friends were all at turning points in their lives and relationships. The Heartstopper finale film will adapt the upcoming sixth graphic novel, which is expected to be released before the movie premieres.

Nick is preparing for university. Charlie is starting to find more independence at school. As they step into young adulthood, they face a new challenge: a long-distance relationship. Once inseparable, they must now deal with change—growing up, growing apart, and wondering if first love can really last.

The film promises to explore these deeply emotional questions with the same tenderness and sincerity that have defined the series from the very beginning. Here we get to see the complexities of choosing yourself and still holding space for someone else in your heart. So relatable, right?

Returning alongside Connor and Locke are William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, and Rhea Norwood. For those new to the series, Heartstopper follows Charlie, a kind-hearted schoolboy who falls for his classmate Nick. Their relationship unfolds in the quiet moments: glances in the hallway, text messages, and shy smiles. It’s a story that finds power in softness.

While there’s no release date yet, one thing is clear—the Heartstopper finale is more than just an ending. It’s a love letter. To first crushes, to chosen family, and to anyone who’s ever struggled with identity or love. As fans get ready to say goodbye, one question remains: Will it hurt to let go? Or will it simply remind us how beautiful it was to hold on?
