Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo to Star in Netflix Period Drama ‘Show Business’

Sharing is caring!

Fresh off the global success of Squid Game and Dark Nuns, the two South Korean icons now take the lead in a gripping post-Korean war drama.

What K-drama are you binge-watching these days? Love Scout? The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call? When the Stars Gossip? Maybe BLACKPINK Jisoo’s Newtopia? Well, get ready to clear your watchlist because Netflix has something big in the works—featuring an absolutely star-studded cast!

Following the global success of Squid Game, Gong Yoo now headlines with The Glory’s Song Hye-kyo in a brand-new period drama set against the gritty backdrop of Korea’s entertainment industry in the 1960s and 1980s. And if that isn’t exciting enough, the lineup gets even better: Kim Seol-hyun, Cha Seung-won, and Lee Hanee are also joining the cast in this highly anticipated series, currently titled Show Business.

Here’s What We Know So Far About Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo Upcoming Netflix Drama

So, what’s the story about? Song Hye-kyo plays Min-ja, a tough and determined woman whose difficult childhood fuels her ambition. She sees a golden opportunity in the Korean music industry and boldly dives in headfirst, ready to take her rightful place in the spotlight.

Starring alongside her is Goblin’s Gong Yoo, playing her childhood friend Dong-gu. Their deep bond is at the heart of the series, but as they navigate the unpredictable entertainment world, their relationship is put to the test. His character is described as unpredictable yet uniquely attuned to Min-ja’s influence, making their dynamic all the more intriguing. (Isn’t it exciting to see how these two would work out?)

Adding even more drama, Light Shop star Kim Seol-hyun plays a character whose relationship with Min-ja shifts from childhood admiration to complex rivalry. Meanwhile, Uprising actor Cha Seung-won takes on the role of Gil-yeo, a legendary composer with a Midas touch for creating stars. And The Fiery Priest’s Lee Hanee plays Yang-ja, Min-ja’s mother, whose own dreams of becoming a singer never fade, even as she struggles against life’s harsh realities.

With a powerhouse cast like this, Show Business is already shaping up to be a massive hit. But that’s not all—it’s also backed by the renowned screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung (Our Blues) and director Lee Yoon-jung (Coffee Prince), ensuring a drama that’s as emotionally gripping as it is visually stunning.

While Netflix is keeping the exact premiere date under wraps, the buzz around Show Business is already off the charts. A period drama, an A-list cast, and a behind-the-scenes dream team? This one’s got all the makings of a K-drama masterpiece, and, obviously, we can’t wait to see Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo bring their acting prowess once again to our screens.

Excited? Keep your eyes peeled—this is going to be one for the books! Stay posted for more updates!
