After bidding goodbye to Jurong Bird Park, Singapore opens an upgraded attraction that comes with eight huge walkthroughs and offers child-friendly and multi-sensory experiences.
If you missed the activities and educational trips you had at Jurong Bird Park, then now is the best time to immerse yourself in the symphony of colors of Asia’s largest bird park. Bird Paradise opens on May 8 at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve and now hosts the former residents of Singapore’s oldest and most iconic attraction—which includes more than 3,000 birds from over 400 avian species!
Bird Paradise covers twice the walk-through aviaries of the now-closed 52-year-old Jurong Bird Park. It spreads over an area of 17 hectares and introduces the different biomes of the world, including the African Rainforest, South American Wetlands, Southeast Asian Paddies, and Australian Dry Eucalypt Forests.
Here’s Why You Should Visit the Newly Opened Bird Paradise in Singapore!
Open to the public starting May 8, visitors can now get up close and personal with birds from different parts of the world in a setting that is intentionally designed to mimic the ecologies and habitats of these avian species.
As the Group CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group Mike Barclay puts it: “This marks a key milestone for the Mandai Rejuvenation Project that we continue to steward. We are excited to begin a new chapter by opening Bird Paradise’s doors to guests from May 8, 2023. There are many ways to experience this 17-hectare park. We expect bird enthusiasts to thoroughly explore the massive outdoor aviaries, each one inspired by a different part of the world, before sitting down to a meal at one of our themed dining outlets. Families with children may like to set aside time to enjoy the dry and wet playgrounds, as well as the keeper-led interactions, animal feedings, and bird presentations at the Sky Amphitheater. The options are varied, and in the coming months, we look forward to launching more experiences at Bird Paradise for everyone to enjoy.â€
1. Meet Up Close and Personal with the Birds of Prey at the Winged Sanctuary
Of course, what is a visit to the aviary without meeting the rarest species of birds in the world? Bird Paradise offers an exclusive look into the rare and predatory birds of high conservation value in its Winged Sanctuary. This place houses over 100 species of birds, including the Brahminy Starling, Santa Cruz Ground Dove, and Philippine Falconet.
2. Experience the Forested Valleys of Continental Africa and Penguin CoveÂ
Another key highlight of Bird Paradise is the Heart of Africa, where you get to experience the forested valleys of continental Africa. Here, you can witness birds displaying their natural behavior while walking through the dense, misty forest with meandering streams. Nearby is the Wings of Asia section, where you get to see bamboo forests and rice terraces that serve as primary food sources for the animals in this habitat.
With its aim to conserve and educate people through experience and entertainment, you can learn firsthand from the featured animals, including the critically endangered Baer’s Pochard and Milky Stork. There’s also the Penguin Cove, which serves as an indoor habitat for Gentoo, King, Humboldt, and Northern Rockhopper Penguins.
3. Learn How Animals are Properly Taken Cared of Through Research
In addition to the exciting experience of meeting the birds and observing them in their natural habitats, Bird Paradise offers visitors the opportunity to explore a few specialized centers. The Avian Health and Research Center, Avian Nutrition Center, and Breeding and Research Center are particularly noteworthy locations, as these provide valuable information and knowledge about avian health and research. These centers are dedicated to the welfare of the birds and employ high-end and meticulous procedures to ensure that the birds receive top-notch medical attention and care.
For only $48 for adults and $33 for children ages 3 to 12, you can definitely enjoy the different offerings of Bird Paradise. Aside from the aforementioned, there’s also the Crimson Wetland, Amazonian Jewels, Mysterious Papua, Australian Outback, Lory Loft, Sky Amphitheater, and Mandai Wildlife West.
