Sharing is caring!

A special edition of VANS shoes and apparel is set to be launched on 30th September with an exclusive collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). This edition is inspired by MoMa’s art collection by legendary Salvador Dalí, Vasily Kandinsky, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Jackson Pollock, Lybov Popova, and Faith Ringgold.

“MoMA is excited to finally reveal the Vans collaboration as they, too, have a rich legacy of supporting artistic expression,” says Robin Sayetta, Associate Director of Licensing and Partnerships at MoMA.

Vans and MoMa’s shared passion for encouraging art and personal expression across the world is what made them come together and create this special release.

There will be an initial set of collections to be launched in September, the rest in November. Vans, in collaboration with MoMa, chooses the selection of featured works of art. “We pursue a limited number of product collaborations, and our goal is always to engage a broader audience with modern art. We are thrilled to reach art lovers around the world through Vans’ global network”, Sayetta Said.

The first of two launches will debut in September with products featuring iconic works by Salvador Dalí, Vasily Kandinsky, and Claude Monet. Salvador Dali is a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill and precise draftsmanship. He is best known for one of his paintings, “The Persistence of. Memory 1931.” The famous piece has been interpreted on the Vans Old Skool Twist’s medial and lateral panels.

According to Vans, the footwear model’s construction has gone beyond the perception of reality and is finished with a gum sole and distorted foxing stripe, which can also be found on Vans long sleeve and pullover apparel styles.

Kandinsky, a Russian painter, art theorist, and abstract art pioneer, believed that both colour and form evoked their power and emotion independently from images and objects. His design, “Orange 1923” is part of the collection. Vans’ Classic Slip-On celebrates abstract forms and signs, meticulously covering the canvas uppers, and is also transpired across a short sleeve tee, crewneck, and snapback hat.

Another collection is inspired by Claude Monet, a French painter and the founder of French Impressionist painting. He is recognised for one of his pieces, a masterpiece chosen to be in the selection, “Water Lilies 1914-1926.”

It has been confirmed that the initial release includes a 10-piece assortment of MoMA branded footwear, apparel, and accessories. It exhibits a colourful interpretation of Vans’ iconic checkerboard with bright, bold colours, and takes direct inspiration from the Museum’s newly expanded and re-imagined identity.

This collaboration also offers an exclusive release for kids and toddlers encouraging them to be engaged in art and express their creativity at a young age. One thing to expect is a Classic Slip-On with hook-and-loop shapes, allowing kids to customise their shoes and provide a hands-on, creative experience.

The Vans and MoMa exclusive edition will be out on Vans.com, Vans retail, MoMA Design Stores, store.moma.org, and select retail locations where Vans are sold.
