Netflix’s Squid Game Wins Two Major Awards at the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards

Lee Jung Jae bags the Best Actor Award at the HCA TV Awards, alongside Amanda Seyfried, Michael Keaton, Martin Short, and Hannah Einbinder. See the full list of winners below.

Besting The Witcher’s Henry Cavill, Ozark’s Jason Bateman, You’s Penn Badgley, Lucifer’s Tom Ellis, and Loki’s Tom Hiddleston, Lee Jung Jae won the Best Actor in a Streaming Series, Drama in the recently held 2022 Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards. This designation adds up to the awards amassed by the Squid Game actor, including the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and Critics’ Choice Super Awards. Aside from being the first Asian to win the Best Actor in a major American award ceremony, he was also nominated for the prestigious Emmy Awards in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

Upon receiving the award, the actor remarked: “I’d like to thank the Hollywood Critics Association for honoring me with this great award. I feel immensely lucky to be a part of Squid Game and I am deeply grateful that so many of you around the world have enjoyed and supported this series. I think Squid Game has opened a new chapter in my acting career with opportunities to share my work with many more people. I’m also more determined to do projects that are entertaining, meaningful, and moving. Thank you once again.”

Lee Jung Jae also invited the audience to watch the upcoming sequel of the hit Netflix series, Squid Game, which has also won the Best International Series at the HCA TV Awards. It bested Acapulco, Lupin, Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), Narcos: Mexico, and Pachinko.

The annual Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards began its two-night event at the Beverly Hilton. It was hosted by The Daily Show’s Dulcé Sloan and Tig Notaro. HBO’s White House dominated the ceremony with five awards won, including Best Limited Series. ABC’s Abbott Elementary scored four trophies, including Best Broadcast Comedy, Best Actress for Quinta Brunson, and Best Supporting Actress for Janelle James.
