Usher In the Lunar New Year with The Macallan – A Night on Earth in Scotland

January 10, 2023

Sharing is caring!

Gift the first batch of The Macallan limited-edition single malt whisky to your friends and family members to bring them a good fortune!

What better way to welcome the new year than to bond and radiate positivity. This Lunar New Year, The Macallan captures this universal feeling and intention by introducing its latest addition to the limited-edition gifting series: A Night on Earth In Scotland.

The unique single malt whisky is a collaboration with the acclaimed Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn, creator of designs for the world’s leading luxury brands, whose artwork was featured in director Wes Anderson’s films.

A Night on Earth In Scotland takes inspiration from the traditional Scottish New Year’s Eve celebration called Hogmanay. The whisky has a natural color likened to a warm ember, which pays tribute to the role of fire at New Year. Its vanilla sweetness references the traditional shortbread biscuits that are often gifted and eaten at Hogmanay. While the notes of dried orange and spice represent the flavors and aromas that fill homes across Speyside and throughout Scotland during the most awaited festive season.

Making it even more suited for the season, A Night On Earth In Scotland comes encased in a vibrant presentation box, which is designed and created by Erica Dorn with a particular journey in mind: red for merriment, vitality, good fortune, and joy; blue which is reminiscent of a winter evening in Scotland, in all its peace and stillness; amber as a tribute to the sweet aromas of soft butter and freshly baked shortbread, which actually breathed life into the overall creation of The Macallan whisky.

As Erica Dorn puts it: “Fire plays a significant role in New Year celebrations around the world. around its warmth, we gather our families, friends, and loved ones to share past memories and future hopes. Through its purifying qualities, we release the past to clear the way for the future. In its dancing light we find solace from cold winter nights, as we have done since the dawn of time. Though the fire rituals may differ from culture to culture, fire is universal in its ability to unite us and bring us ‘home’.”

Taking a closer look, the packaging also reveals some of the distinctive customs of Hogmanay, which include the traditional first footing. As per tradition, after the stroke of midnight, it is customary for the first person to cross the threshold of homes in Scotland to bear symbolic gifts, such as whisky, cola for the fire, and Scottish shortbread, as gestures of goodwill and good fortune for the year ahead.

Meanwhile, the other design elements found in the packaging focus on the flavors experienced when savoring the whisky. Aside from the iconic Scottish shortbread, this also includes dried oranges, spice, and, of course, oak leaves, which refer to The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks.

According to the Global Creative Director of The Macallan, Jaume Ferras: “There is one night of the year when friends, family, and loved ones come together. A night of warm memories and plans for the future, and The Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland has been specially created in collaboration with Erica Dorn to capture the essence of that unique moment.” He further added, “A Night On Earth In Scotland is such a memorable whisky, which draws on inspiration from the aromas of the finest shortbread. These sweet, comforting, buttery flavors play an important part in New Year traditions in Scotland, and an essential role in the flavor profile of this unique single malt. This is the perfect whisky for special moments, best enjoyed with those who mean the most to you, while reminiscing of the year past and looking to the future.”

Showcasing the skill of the Whisky Mastery Team and The Macallan’s dedication to incomparable craftsmanship and uncompromised excellence, A Night On Earth In Scotland was specifically crafted from a selection of The Macallan’s exceptional sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, along with American ex-bourbon barrels, to deliver its rich, sweet shortbread-like character, emphasizing a soft, velvety mouthfeel.

Savor the successes of the previous year—no matter how small or big they are—and keep the vigor to do better and bigger this Lunar New Year. Celebrate with A Night On Earth In Scotland for S$145. This perfect partner for the celebration is available for purchase globally. For more information, visit its official website at  www.themacallan.com.
