KAWS Joins UNIQLO as First-Ever Artist in Residence

September 16, 2025

Sharing is caring!

UNIQLO just dropped a major cultural move: contemporary artist KAWS has officially stepped in as the brand’s first Artist in Residence.

A New Chapter in Art for All

Known for reimagining pop culture through his playful yet thought-provoking style, KAWS has been collaborating with UNIQLO since 2016. Now, he’s taking things to the next level by curating global art events, teaming up with UNIQLO’s museum partners, and shaping future LifeWear collections. The first of these collections is set to hit stores in Fall/Winter 2025.

“I am thrilled to be taking this next step with my longtime partner UNIQLO to become the brand’s first Artist In Residence,” KAWS shared. “In this role, I hope to tap into the art community and global creatives to curate the next generation of UNIQLO collaborators”.

The Artist in Residence role goes beyond designing. It opens the door for KAWS to connect art and everyday life—bringing creativity to spaces where people actually live, work, and shop.

Bridging Fashion, Creativity, and Culture

UNIQLO has always stood for more than just clothes. Its LifeWear philosophy champions simplicity, quality, and accessibility. Now, with KAWS at the helm of this new chapter, the brand is doubling down on its mission of “Art for All.”

“KAWS has been breaking the traditional boundaries of the art world, just as UNIQLO [has] in its efforts to redefine the apparel industry,” said John C Jay, President of Global Creative for Fast Retailing. “As our Artist in Residence, KAWS will help Uniqlo to expand the global appreciation and participation of art and creativity for all.”

The partnership continues a legacy of iconic collaborations—think KAWS × PEANUTS, KAWS × Sesame Street, and KAWS + Warhol. Each release has blurred the line between streetwear and fine art, making culture wearable and accessible worldwide.

KAWS becoming Artist in Residence is more than a fashion headline. It’s a signal that art and creativity are shaping how we dress, express, and connect. UNIQLO is betting on culture as the next frontier of style, and with KAWS leading, it looks like the bet will pay off.
