There are all sorts of love in the world – but probably nothing could compare to the unique way of how our fathers express their love for us. Their brand of fatherhood could range from terrible dad jokes to awkward life conversations; yet all the same way, they try so hard to navigate through their parenting journey and become the best adults that they can be in the eyes of their children.
Back then, it’s so easy to craft handwritten letters and swing our arms around our fathers as we show our gratitude to them for all the efforts they have made for the family. However, we have to admit that the older we get, the more difficult it is for us to truly express what we so wanted to tell to the man of the house.
For some reason, we suddenly stop sharing to our fathers how our days went, what happened in school, and who we are hanging out with. We stop asking silly questions – and eventually stop asking them about anything. We become more selective of our answers. And even lie in some cases.
It’s not that we love them less. Maybe it’s because we have been with them all this time, and we have seen them struggle through the pressures of parenthood while juggling the demands at work. More than anything else, we don’t want to end up as a disappointment or a bother to them – and so we end up keeping to ourselves the words that we would want to share with them.
But today is a rare opportunity to let our hearts out. They taught us to be brave, and so we must muster the courage to make them feel that all of their efforts are appreciated and that they will always have a special place in our hearts.
To the man who taught us to be responsible for our choices, introduced the sense of adventure and the beauty of risk-taking, and instilled the importance of obedience;
To the man who showed his children how they should be treated and loved by the person they decided to spend the rest of their lives with;
To the man who inspired his children to be the strength and support to the people around them;
To the man who first loved us when we came into this world, Happy Father’s Day.
