Paying homage to Alexander McQueen’s roots in New York, Sarah Burton brought the British fashion house to the Big Apple for the launching of their Autumn Winter 2022 Womenswear Collection.
Themed as ‘Mycelium,’ the creative director took inspiration and gave honor to New York’s sense of community – of how it welcomed fashion designer, Lee Alexander McQueen’s infamous ‘Dante’ collection in 1996 and the ‘Eye’ in the fall of 1999. The idea of mycelium comes from the reality of nature as a community that goes way older than we are and the interconnectedness of things – from the tallest skyscrapers to the plants, the grass, the ground, the animals, and every human being.
Rooted in the metaphor of interconnectedness and nature’s elements, the fashion house staged a runway last Tuesday, March 15, in a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, amid piles of creatively-arranged wood pieces made from naturally fallen trees. To fully commune with nature, birds and insect chirps were played on speakers before settling to the groove of “A Forest” by The Cure.
Alexander McQueen‘s Autumn Winter 2022 Womenswear Collection was an astounding show of nature’s breathtaking power. It flaunts in leathers, ruffles, and psychedelic dresses, pencil skirts, wool mohair, asymmetrical tailoring, mushroom sequence, and mycelium embroidery. The ensemble is paired with leather pumps and booties with silver metal toe-caps and pin heels. Accessories include chokers, ear hooks, multi-rings and cuffs in high-shine, engraved metal with mirrored pendants, and double-chain necklaces.
To complete the overall look, the collection also featured swing bags and chain swing bags that are articulated with central handle, lust bags with a silver metal chain strap in black leather and black patent, curve pouches with a zip closure and silver metal chain wrist strap in black and bright orange patent leather and with psychedelic mushroom and sequin mycelium embroidery, bow bags that come in bright red and green leather, and mini and micro jeweled satchel in black leather with silver studs.
