Charli XCX Teases in Mockumentary ‘The Moment’—and It’s Wild

November 27, 2025

Sharing is caring!

It is packed with real-life tour footage, insane strobe lights, and… Kylie Jenner (wait, what?!).

From posting songs on MySpace to building a reputation through mixtapes and singles that pushed the boundaries of pop, Charli XCX has become one of the most iconic figures of today’s generation. She has always offered something bold, fresh, and remarkable, and now she’s taking it to the big screen with her upcoming mockumentary, The Moment.

The three-time Grammy nominee is set to claim cinemas in 2026 with a project she created from the ground up. Directed by renowned photographer Aidan Zamiri and distributed worldwide by A24—the studio behind films like Everything Everywhere All At Once, Midsommar, and Past Lives, known for daring, genre-bending, and culturally sharp cinema—this film promises to be a distinct, cinematic event.

Here’s What We Know So Far About Charli XCX’s ‘The Moment’ Mockumentary

While The Moment is scripted, it offers an intimate glimpse into Charli’s whirlwind life on tour following a pivotal breakthrough. Think of it as a backstage pass with a twist: real moments of stardom, surreal comedy, and the intensity of prepping for her first arena tour, all framed by Charli’s name and the now-iconic Brat signage. The teaser already hints at her sharp comedic timing and features a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo from celebrities like Kylie Jenner.

Unlike traditional documentaries or concert films, the mockumentary leans into fiction while remaining painfully real in its depiction of the music industry. The trailer reveals a cast including Rachel Sennott, Stephen Colbert, and Kylie Jenner. Charli’s voiceover captures the ethos of the project: “When I felt like people started to care about me, nothing else mattered. Nothing was more important than Brat.” Last year, Brat became such a cultural phenomenon, inspiring a color obsession and even earning Collins Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2024, defined as a person “characterized by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude.”

Co-written by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, with Charli and David Hinojosa producing, the film is just one of her many ventures into cinema. Charli made her acting debut in Pete Ohs’ Erupcja at the Toronto International Film Festival and starred in Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero, featured at both the Venice and London Film Festivals. She also appears in Greg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and will contribute to Emerald Fennell’s upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation, not only providing one track but an entire album of original music. That record, her seventh studio album, is set to be released on February 13, 2026, following the singles House, featuring The Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale, and the baroque pop track Chains of Love.

In the past year and a half alone, Charli XCX has scored a major film, started a Substack, gotten married, and continued to shape her artistic universe with a mockumentary set for release next year. The power that she wields, indeed.

Are You Ready to be in ‘The Moment’ with Charli XCX?

Beyond Kylie Jenner, The Moment’s cast is stacked. Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Trew Mullen, Isaac Cole Powell, Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, and Rish Shah all make appearances. The teaser suggests a mix of comedy, chaos, and heartfelt reflection, promising fans a chance to dive deep into Charli XCX’s world—her life, thoughts, and creative mind. The Moment hits theaters January 26, 2026. It’s set to be a cinematic experience that’s wild, unapologetic, and entirely in the moment. A perfect start to the year for fans ready to witness Charli XCX like never before.
