Everything We Know So Far About the Highly Anticipated ‘That ‘70s Show’ Sequel

January 3, 2023

Sharing is caring!

They’re back baby! Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Wilmer Valderrama, Laura Prepon, and Topher Grace make a comeback on the sequel to the iconic That ’70s Show.

Yep, the whole gang is back on Netflix’s newest series, That ‘90s Show. Fans are now getting all nostalgic and excited after finding out that the hit series gets a reboot—and that the original cast will all be making an appearance!

As shown on the official trailers released by Netflix, Jackie (portrayed by Mila Kunis), Kelso (portrayed by Ashton Kutcher), Eric (portrayed by Topher Grace), Donna (portrayed by Laura Prepon), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) reprise their roles as they return to Point Place. However, the show’s focus this time is on new characters: a new generation.

Here’s What to Expect in That ‘90s Show

Eric and Donna are now portrayed as parents to their teenage daughter, Leia (portrayed by Callie Haverday), who now gets to visit her grandparents, Red and Kitty (played by Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, respectively). That summer of 1995 led to Leia meeting a new bunch of friends, creating a new gang that hangs out in the Forman basement, and, well, joining the crazy fun made in the house. As Red frustratedly puts it: “Why did you open our house to chaos again? All the dumbasses were gone!”

Why Skip to the ‘90s?

Nearly two decades after That ’70s Show first aired, the sitcom returns and moves forward to the 1990s. According to the production team, aside from the current generation’s obsession with Y2K things, timeline-wise, the ‘90s is the only era left where teens get to look up and not down at their phones—a time where chatting really does happen and not just in between screens. The daughter of the original creators of That ‘70s Show, Lindsey Turner, shared that ‘the ‘90s was the last place of a real kind of engagement, having to make your own fun and really connecting with each other.’

In an interview, American actor Ashton Kutcher said that it was truly nostalgic to be back on the set. With the show’s iconic set dismantled after it ended, the team behind the highly anticipated That ‘90s Show worked tirelessly to capture the same, familiar aesthetic of the iconic sitcom. “It’s all the same folks that made ‘That ‘70s Show,’ so it was pretty bizarre.”

Like its predecessor, Netflix followed the same style of multi-camera comedy. Aside from the original cast, That ’90s Show will introduce a bunch of new faces, including Ashley Aufderheide, Callie Haverda, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos. That ‘90s Show will come in ten episodes and will premiere on January 19, 2023. Raise your hands there, millennials! Are you ready to make a trip back to the ‘90s?
