The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced last February 8, and we can’t help but feel excited as a wide range of film genres were included in the list of best movies released in 2021.
Back for another year after the first pandemic-era awarding ceremony held in April of last year, the 2022 Oscars Nominations will be aired live at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood this March 27. This announcement was made by actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross.
While we don’t know yet who will be hosting the 2022 Oscars, it has been confirmed already there will be a host after three years of hostless ceremonies.
2022 Oscars Best Picture Nominees
Leading the pack with 12 nominations is Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” which stars Benedict Cumberbatch – also nominated as Best Actor. Aside from making history as the first woman to be nominated more than once for Best Director, the drama has also earned the Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor Nominations.
Now with 11 films nominated for Best Picture, Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” also set a new record for getting seven nominations – Best Director and Best Picture included.
Probably one of the biggest highlights of the Oscars is the Japanese movie, “Drive My Car”. Aside from getting the International Feature Film Category nomination, the film, which is based on Haruki Murakami’s short story, ‘Me Without Women’, has also been nominated in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. To date, this is the first Japanese film that garnered more than one Oscar nomination.
Completing the 10 nominees for best picture are Dune, Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley.
